INVESTIGATION OF MECHANISMS OF THE FORMING OF NONEQUILIBRIUM STRUCTURES OF ICE IN SUPERCOOLED WATER

Annotation

The morphology and kinetics of non-equilibrium mezoscopic structures of ice from pure supercooled water in the range of the heterogeneous nucleation mechanism are investigated by optical and thermal techniques. The kinetic morphological diagram is plotted. As supercooling is grown, the following mezostructures are found: dense-branching, dendritic, needle-like and flate-like. The effect of natural convection, thermal diffusion and molecular attachment kinetics on ice growth is discussed.
