Kinetics and rate determining stage management of hydrogen evolution reaction on iron

Annotation

Influence of nature and concentration (1–10 mM) of surface active substances (SAS) – guanidine and its derivatives: phenylbiguanidine, o-fluorophenylbiguanidine, m-nitrophenylbiguanidine – on hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetics and rate determining stage nature on iron is studied in acidic chloride solutions with constant ionic strength equal to 1. The rate determining stage of HER changes in dependence on nature and concentration of SAS. In a number of cases its type changes according to the row: slow discharge → limiting chemical recombination → → slow surface diffusion → limiting discharge.
