First experience of reproduction of a Karelin’s newt Triturus karelinii (Strauch, 1870) with urinal sperm use for eggs fertilization

Annotation

Karelin’s newt Triturus karelinii (Strauch, 1870) is an Eastern Mediterranean species with fragmented areal. Anthropogenic activity in the Caucasus region, especially in Talysh, makes it extremely endangered. Captive breeding and reintroducing into nature depressive populations is one of the available measures to support its population. The article presents results of the first successful experiments on reproduction of Karelin’s newt, using urinal sperm for artificial internal fertilization of eggs.

Keywords
