COMPOSITION, DISTRIBUTION AND STRUCTURAL INDICATORS OF BENTHIC COMMUNITIES OF LOWLAND RIVER OF THE LOWER VOLGA RIVER BASIN (BASED ON THE EXAMPLE THE SOK RIVER)

Annotation

The results of long-term research of communities of macrozoobenthos of lowland river with undisturbed hydrological regime are presented. It is shown that animal population of the upper reaches is typical for the zone of rhytral, middle and lower reaches - potamal of rivers. It was found that the dynamics of fauna, quantitative development and structural indicators of macrozoobenthos from headwaters to downstream of the river are determined by hydrological and hydrochemical characteristics of separate sites. The assessment of water quality and ecological state of river in terms of macrozoobenthos is given. The variety of conditions in the upper reaches provides high rates of biodiversity, abundance and biomass of benthos. The dominance of rheophilic and oxyphylic species is detected. Psammo- and pelorheophilic invertebrate taxa dominated in the middle reaches of the river. In places with wastewater discharge the decreases of the number of species, abundance and biomass of benthos, changes in the structure of benthic communities are observed. Alien benthic species distributed at the mouth of the river.
