THE ANALYSIS OF THE SURGICAL TREATMENT RESULTS OF DIABETIC MACULAR EDEMA WITH EPIRETINAL FIBROSIS FOLLOWING THE TOTAL PANRETINAL LASER COAGULATION

Annotation

Macular edema with epiretinal fibrosis caused by the panretinal laser coagulation is the reason for visual acuity reduction in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. The starting point for edema formation is the chronic hyperglycemia. The long lasting macular edema of the retina leads to the cell loss. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one of the most significant mediators of high permeability of retinal vessels which also contributes to the retinal and choroidal neovascularization. Nowadays in ophthalmology there is a wide range of diagnostic equipment allowing to assess the morphological and functional status of the macular retina. On the grounds of our own clinical examinations and the analysis of the world experience of diabetic macular edema treatment the conclusions about the high efficacy of the subtotal vitrectomy with the ILM peeling were made.
