PASSION TO PROVE UNPROVABLE OR WHETHER G.Y. VERESCHAGIN WROTE “CHAGYR, CHAGYR DYDYKE...”?

Annotation

This is a continuation, or an organic part of the publication “The representative of the late literary genesis, or dialogue with the first Udmurt scholar and writer” in the scientific journal “Tambov University Review. Series Humanities”. Tambov, 2015. Issue 3 (143). In this paper was made attempt to understand the motives of the irrepressible passion of D.M. Sakharnyh to refute the conventional agreement that the poem “Chagyr, Chagyr dydyke..” = “Grey, grey dove”, published in the form of a folk song by the first Udmurt scholar and writer G.Y. Vereschagin in 1889 in his ethnographic monograph “Votyaki Sarapulskogo uyezda Vyatskoj gubernii” in St. Petersburg, comes from Vereschagin’s pen, the Udmurt “folk-linguist”, as he called himself sometimes. Was disclosed an artificial dramatization of the usual view of this poem which occupies a key position in the history of the Udmurt literature, the failure of all five “proofs” is revealed. Prompt appearance of the work was cause by the emergence of a statement in Wikipedia that “before” this poem was attributed to the pen of G.E. Vereshchagin, but now young scientists “proved” that this is purely a folk song.
