MYTH AS A WAY OF INTELLECTUAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD IN THE WEST EUROPEAN ART OF THE XIX-XX CENTURIES

Annotation

The purpose is to identify the mythological structures connected with archaic thinking in the art of the last two centuries. By the example of separate pieces of West European art it is possible to trace the evolution from intuited perception of mythological images to analytical method of their comprehension and framing. The conceptual basis of such a research is defined by consideration of mythologems through the system of axiological categories, determined by supreme human values. Language forms of myth are analyzed by the example of separate works of R. Wagner and painters: Puvis de Chavannes, A. Mucha, O. Kokoschka, etc. The description of a closed symbolic system, based on a complicated mechanism of figurative views deserves special attention. Along with this was distinguished the development of intuitive and sensual seeds in the analyzed compositions. Myth as a way of intellectual development of the world compares with the researches of mythological structures of French scientist of the XX century K. Levi-Strauss in West European art. These features open through separate aspects of art of T. Mann, G. Hesse, K. Vonnegut, M. Frisch, etc. In the end was not only drawn a conclusion but also “thrown a bridge” from the era of romanticism to the art of the XX century, explaining the modeling of mythological structures through transformation to a sacral beginning.
