PSYCHOLOGICAL-PEDAGOGICAL CONDITIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS’ INTERCULTURAL SKILLS BASED ON COMMUNICATIVE-ETHNOGRAPHIC APPROACH

Annotation

Communicative-ethnographic approach is one of the modern innovative approaches, which aim is to create optimal conditions for the development of learners’ intercultural competence in immersion. It refers to one of the cultural studies approaches to learning a foreign language and culture immersion students in linguistic and socio-cultural environment. Connecting two terms - “communicative” and “ethnographic” in the title - allows to emphasize two essential components of intercultural communication. “Communicative” component represents one of the main goals of education - learning a foreign language as a mean of communication through communication with representatives of different countries and cultures. “Ethnographic” - emphasizes the important condition for the implementation of the process of learning a foreign language and culture - students should be in the linguistic and social-cultural environment and to act as ethnographers, observe and study a foreign language and culture by observing the communicative behavior of the representatives of the country and communicate with them. However, despite its didactic and methodological potential, communicative-ethnographic approach has not been applied in the national education system. The issue of psychological-pedagogical conditions for the development of students’ intercultural skills based on communicative-ethnographic approach are considered. Literature review enabled to define the following conditions: a) students’ motivation to develop intercultural competence in immersion; b) immersion into the authentic cultural and language environment; c) the use of problem-solving assignments and methods of ethnography.
