A film of Lars von Trier “Europa” (1991) is studied. The analysis of the film is caused by social factor - the continuing syndrome of guilt for Hitlerism and the complexity and richness of the film, ciphers and the lack of the level of interpretation of its mythological, theatre and psychotherapy basis, synthetic links with archaic character and modernism. The attempt to consider the drama within the framework of ancient-Roman ritual, Middle age drama-mysteries and sleep therapy - hypnosis is made. The model of Lupercalia and the images of Luperci are reconstructed. The stages of mystery, screen ways of reconstruction of Jung archetype - “departure of knight into darkness” are considered. The attention is paid to specifics of Trier’s allusion, on satirical perception of exercise. He derides it in impetuous, mischievous way of “sacral and secular”. The complex method of research is founded, including historical-cultural, mythopoetic and political comments. Their use helps consider Trier’s work of art in a new way in cinematography process, trace the way of evolution of European cinema about World War II.
