Heinrich Rickert on individualizing and generalizing research methods in historical science
We consider the main provisions of the philosopher Heinrich Rickert’s book on the problem of using individualizing and generalizing research methods in historical science. We analyze the contradictions in the position expressed by the philosopher based on the hermeneutic approach. We provide examples of some contemporary scientific and historical works using generalizing research methods. We draw conclusion that history is not a purely individualizing science, generalization can also be peculiar to it.
