Anthropogenic evolution of landscapes of Tambov region in historical time

Annotation

Forest-steppe landscapes of the Tambov region, being the largest food resource of Central Russia, during historical time have been repeatedly subjected to different kinds of socio-ecological crises. The main factor of their evolution in historical time was the human factor. Moreover, the facts of its manifestation are captured in landscapes of Tambov, since the end of the Iron Age: the felling of trees and development of river valleys changed the hydrological regime of river basins, people took to the watersheds. Further development of the upland landscape (deforestation, grazing, plowing) in the Middle Ages led to a sharp formation of new dry steppe territories. Rural reform of the late XIX century completed the process of degradation of landscapes. The era of industrialization and agricultural intensification has contributed to the development of the socio-ecological crisis of the XX, irreversible loss of fertility of topsoil, sharp desiccation of forest-steppe landscapes.
